What determines the cost of data recovery?

The cost of data recovery depends on six technical factors. Our calculator weighs each of them to generate a personalised estimate for your situation.

Does the type of storage medium affect the recovery cost?
Yes. HDD, SSD, RAID, NAS, USB drive, memory card, smartphone, server or magnetic tape — each medium requires a different technical chain. Recovering a multi-disk RAID or an LTO tape is significantly more complex than a USB drive with a logical failure.
Does the nature of the failure change the price?
Yes, it is one of the most decisive factors. A logical failure (corrupted partition, accidental deletion) is generally less expensive than a mechanical failure (clicking, head crash) or electronic damage (burnt PCB). Encryption and ransomware attacks require additional cryptographic expertise that can significantly affect the cost.
How does the urgency level affect the cost?
Three levels are available: Standard (normal lead time), Express (high priority), and Critical (immediate 24/7 response). Each urgency tier carries a surcharge reflecting the priority mobilisation of technicians and laboratory equipment.
Does the volume of data affect the estimate?
Partially. The storage capacity (a few GB to several TB) and the percentage of still-readable sectors determine the length of the intervention and the probability of a complete recovery. A 4 TB drive with many defective sectors takes longer to process than a 256 GB SSD with a logical failure.
Do previous recovery attempts change the estimate?
Yes, and they can also reduce the chances of success. Each prior attempt — consumer software on a mechanically failing drive, opening outside a controlled environment, incomplete cloning — can worsen the damage. These elements are systematically factored into our calculator's estimate.
Is a physically damaged drive more expensive to recover?
Generally, yes. A physically damaged medium (drop, water immersion, fire, electrical shock) requires decontamination and a preliminary assessment under a laminar flow workstation before any intervention. This step can extend the lead time and affect the final cost.

How does data recovery work?

From free diagnosis to secure delivery — a transparent 4-step process, entirely performed in our Swiss laboratory.

01

Free diagnosis within 3 hours

Send your media by secure post, drop it at one of our 30 collection points across Switzerland, or bring it directly to our laboratory in Ins. Our team performs a full analysis within 3 hours of receipt — free and with no commitment.

02

Transparent quote before any work

You receive a detailed quote outlining the type of failure, recovery chances and exact cost. You approve before any work begins. Full payment on success — only attempt costs are charged if recovery fails.

03

Recovery under ISO 5 laminar flow

Our technicians work under ISO 5 certified laminar flow with specialised tools (PC-3000). Your data never leaves our CyberSafe-certified and CyberSafe partner Swiss laboratory. Duration: 2 to 10 business days depending on complexity.

04

Secure delivery of your data

Your recovered data is delivered on a new encrypted drive, or via secure download according to your preference. Original media can be destroyed on request to guarantee confidentiality.
