Intel Enters the SSD Market
International manufacturer Intel finally unveils its first PCI-Express SSD, the SSD 910. Announced in 400 and 800 GB versions, which actually hide 448 GB and 896 GB of MLC-HET Flash - announced as more durable than classic MLC - this SSD hard drive uses a PCI-Express 2.0 x8 interface.
This overprovisioning combined with this more durable MLC allows Intel to announce endurance of 7 and 14 PB (Petabytes), that is to say 10 complete writes of the disk per day for 5 years!
The Intel SSD 910s are also guaranteed for 5 years. The price of these SSDs is however relatively high (from $1929 to $3859)
